Premium cafe, coffee shops and lifestyle brand, Bluestone Lane, is on the lookout for an energetic and experienced Area General Manager to join our fast-growing Santa Monica, California team to look after two of our Coffee Shop locations in this area. One location is already existing at 631 Wilshire Blvd., the other coming soon nearby!

The Area General Manager will be responsible for the overall operation of two or three coffee shops or kiosks in a geographic area. This role is responsible for managing all aspects of their stores; P&L, the selection, development and coaching of talent, training and scheduling of staff, delivering service standards, timely reporting and payroll management. The Area General Manager will drive the key criteria in stores to achieve the operational goals. This role demonstrates a commercial mindset and continually identifies and converts opportunities to drive store performance.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Positioning: The Area General Manager will work in each store during power hours (11 hours per store for 3 stores), (17 hours per store for 2 stores). Working side-by-side with the team to lead by example, drive key criteria and team behaviors, coach in the moment and understand & meet the needs of the local.

Ownership:

  • Financial Targets: meets the sales revenue and average check targets regularly. Manages labor costs and optimizes productivity of teams by having aces in places
  • Employee Development with high performance standards: holds high performance team standards and helps them to achieve by creating a coaching environment with a focus on improving every day, every moment
  • Leads by example, delivers the highest level of speed, quality and recognition to our locals. Sets high standards for yourself and your team
  • Leads by example, acts as a brand ambassador, role modelling Bluestone values and reflects the company's competencies & behaviors at all time
  • Establishes and maintains a premium environment, driving excellent execution and maintenance of cleanliness guidelines across the stores.
  • Ensures accuracy and timeliness of schedules & payroll; administration takes place on Mondays with leadership calls and no more than 30 minutes each day at off peak hours for payroll reconciliation, schedule anomalies and performance documentation.
  • Communicates clearly and consistently, shares successes, needs and opportunities to Operations Manager & BLHQ as needed

 Speed:

  • With the right talent in place, implements a schedule that has the right people at the right place at the right time. Ensures consistency in scheduling using only hours allotted to store.
  • Ensures new hires are trained on steps of service and POS prior to start.
  • Continually looks for talent and elevate the capability of the store team through recruitment, onboarding, staff development and effective succession planning.
  • Manages performance of direct reports on a regular basis, inspires and supports them to achieve their goals and targets.
  • Has a pipeline of talent to ensure store is fully staffed and enable mobility and promotion

 Recognition:

  • Understands the businesses in the area, local community and their needs
  • Partners with Marketing & Events on community outreach and connection to develop relationships and drive business into stores
  • Builds and cultivates long term customer relationships and establishes and embeds hospitality behaviors across the team.
  • Educates and coaches the store team to deliver a mini daily escape for our locals.
  • Performs any other duties as requested by Ops Director to aid in better operations or service to the locals

Quality Product:

  • Ensures ordering of appropriate stock levels; maintains a strong understanding of product sales performance and optimizes sales of the available inventory.
  • Escalates any issues with suppliers to Supply Chain in a timely manner
  • Ensures proper measures are in place to achieve the correct handling of food and beverage product to retain its freshness and quality
  • Follows implemented systems, to avoid wastage of food and beverage product
  • Leader of accurate product knowledge and ensures all team members follow specifications especially adhering to portion control in line with appropriate costing for a dish or beverage

Cleanliness:

  • Weekly location walkthroughs to follow-up on maintenance and equipment issues
  • Ensures staff is in uniform and follows all grooming guidelines
  • Ensures environment is to standard (physical set up, music volume, cleanliness, etc.) so that a pristine environment is experienced by our locals
  • Maintains Department of Health (DOH) standards at all times and perform timely reviews, follows up and establishes action plans as needed for: sanitation, shop scores and DOH inspections
  • Drives cleaning schedules on a daily, weekly and monthly basis and ensures deep cleans are performed regularly

Measures of Success:

  • Achieves operational goals based on concept
  • Meets sales, average check & labor percentage targets of store
  • Teammates understand and follow direction; stable, high performing team with steps of service followed consistently
  • Food quality & speed and a clean store environment are on display consistently

 

Required Skills, Competencies & Experience:

  • You have 3+ years as store manager, 1+ year, multi-store experience
  • You have a strong work ethic and are team-oriented
  • You are a strong communicator and leader
  • You can speak and write in English
  • You have previous experience managing the P&L of a store
  • You can influence and communicate needs of business to management and headquarters
  • You have a passion for hospitality, people development and leading a sustainable business.
  • You have or will possess DOH certification
