Premium cafe and coffee brand, Bluestone Lane, is on the lookout for an energetic and experienced Lead Cook to join our brand new Harvard Square location (27 Brattle Street) in our fast-growing Boston, Massachusetts region!

The Lead Cook is responsible for all kitchen functions, including but not limited to food purchasing, receiving, preparation and maintenance of quality standards, safety, sanitation and cleanliness. The Lead Cook ensures that food served always meets Bluestone Lane standards of excellence. The candidate must be comfortable working in small, open kitchens, and have strong knowledge of food safety.

The ideal candidate: 

  • Experience maintaining food costs
  • Experience in catering/events/meals to go programs
  • Training of new and current staff whilst providing excellent products to our locals
  • Embodying Bluestone Lane culture and core values
  • Perform necessary administrative tasks including scheduling, inventory management/ordering and required communication
  • Ensure a clean and safe working environment for staff and customers

Skills and qualifications:

  • Must be able to work in small kitchen environments with mainly electric appliances
  • Knowledge of Food Safety
  • Ability to read and execute recipes from a simple menu
  • Minimum two years' prep/line cook experience, preferably in a high-volume cafe environment
  • Minimum two years' supervisory experience in a kitchen environment
  • Computer Saavy
  • Ability to work in high-pressure environments
  • Well-organized and detail-oriented
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, communicate and train team members
  • Accreditation with Department of Health for Food Protection/Alcohol Certificate (SafeServe for Massachusetts) 
  • Accreditation with TIPS Training to serve alcohol in MA
  • Accreditation with Massachusetts Allergen Awareness Course
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and English verbal communication skills
  • Completion of Bluestone Lane People Management Module
  • Maintain all local and DOH certificates required by state officials
